Our Family History

– Geoff and Sybil Phelps started a new venture, under G & S Phelps. They bought a new 18-acre field and started a layer farm to produce eggs for local consumption.

– The business transferred to broiler poultry production.

– We began looking into renewable energy sources to heat our poultry sheds. We eventually chose to install a biomass heating system which was fuelled by woodchip. This then led to us processing the woodchip in-house and selling the fuel to other local farmers.

– After our poultry enterprise expanded, we became Red Tractor assured in 2015.

– A screener was bought to separate the small woodchip from the bulky woodchip. Geoff and his son George also started hand bagging and selling the bales to other local poultry farmers. Cosychip was born.

– Automatic bagging and a filling line were also added to production. Furthermore, Hartpury Farms decided to expand the production system for the bales and biomass fuel to facilitate the growth of the business.

– In 2018, we had our own weighbridge installed.

 – A automated sealer was bought to create a completely sealed plastic bag for the Cosychip to go in. New palletisation was also introduced so we are now able to plastic wrap the pallets, giving customers the option of an outside storage solution.

– A new dust extraction machine called the ken mills was installed this enabled us to make the bales dust free Cosychip plus was available. The shaver was also installed enabling us to start creating cosyflake bales.

– Branded bags were brought out and new Cosyflake bales are available.
